Little festive things to do when you aren't very festive

"I'm not looking forward to Christmas at all, I'm not very festive to think of it," she says while her hair is a bright festive red and she wears reindeer antlers to work at her Christmas job.
It only took me a second to realise what I had said versus what I was displaying to the world. I laughed a little when I received strange looks and "are you sure? You look pretty festive to me." It's true, I'm not very festive, and I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas. But there is some part of me that likes to try and be a little festive. Be it with my reindeer antler headband or watching my favourite Christmas movies. (Not the hair, though, that's red all the time.)

I think I must enjoy the idea of a fun, festive Christmas even though that's not the reality. I like the idea of liking Christmas. Does that make sense? I also just like wearing reindeer antlers because I look damn cute in them. And while I don't like going "all out" with my festiveness, it's the little things that can make you feel a little more in the spirit of things.

Little festive things to do even if you're not very festive.

Santa hats or reindeer antler headbands.
Santa hats are for those who like to play it safe and was the first of the two that I'd planned to buy for the month. But, a little too boring for my tastes. Instead, a super cute pair of reindeer antlers suit my personality more and are quite fun. If you're going to do it, might as well go all out.

Get out that red and green.
Paint your nails a juicy red or fresh green, or both. That was my first point of call. If you're going to pull off red or green (or both) at any time, it might as well be Christmas.

Oh, Christmas sweets!
If you've got the bakers touch (of even if you haven't) making some sweet treats can be a great and tasty way to get a bit festive. Blogs are going crazy with recipes right now but my favourite has to be Zoella and her adorable, simple recipes

Let there be LIGHTS!
OMGOSH Christmas lights! If you're lucky enough to know of/live near somewhere that decks every house on the block out in lights and decorations, go for a little trip. It's beautiful and instantly makes you feel festive.
Christmas lips.
Every blogger and their black and white cat have done a festive red lip post. So it's in. Red lipstick is officially the most festive of all the lipsticks and if you're wearing it, you're officially festive. Shouldn't be too hard, we've all got at least 5 different shades of red in our collections.

Watch it.
Why live Christmas when you can watch it? Gather your favourite movies and indulge in some new ones. Elf, Love Actually, The Holiday. Those are just my favourites but they're great.

ALL the candy canes.
Is it just me or is there a serious lack of candy canes around this year? Nevertheless, those are the very definition of Christmas.

Gift yourself.
In the spirit of giving, nothing gets you in the spirit more like buying yourself a gift. If it's something that you'd otherwise have to try and justify to yourself, then it's perfect to get now. If it's also something you know no one else would get for you, then it's perfect to get now. Gift yo self.

Anything else? Probably. But these are just some of the things I do. And it kind of works.

  1. I usually feel very Christmassy but with 5 days to go I am feeling less and less into it. I had a couple of ideas for posts, baking and various other festive activities but life just got in the way!!! Such a shame. Love this post :)

    1. Oh true!!??!! Typically, I'm the opposite though, and I'm never Christmassy, but I felt like I wanted to try and change that this year. But man, I feel you! I wanted to do more gift guides but, alas, oh well haha.
      Thank you dear!
